Book Review: Vampires Rule

K.C Blake- Vampires RuleFormat: Digital (smashwords)Synopsis: (From Goodreads)They don't call him Jackpot for nothing.Jack has always beat the odds... at least until now.  When he was attacked by a werewolf, vampires saved him.  When he got tired of living the vampire life, another werewolf attack freed him, making him human again.  Now Jack just wants to live a normal life, but what's normal about a hunter girlfriend, a brother who wants to stake him to be on the safe side, and a head werewolf building an army to rule the world?Review: Jack is just your average teenage guy who hangs out with his pals Summer, Cowboy and Lilly. Only, problem is he is a vampire. When his family were attacked by werewolves ten years prior he and his parents died, but Jack was ‘saved’ from a final death and turned into a vampire. Jack had to leave his younger brother Billy behind and start a new life. One day Jack is warned by Lilly’s premonition to steer clear of Silver, the girl ina fluffy jacket but when he sees she is about to be mauled by a werewolf he can’thelp but intervene. The werewolf scratches to his body somehow turn him backinto a human- supposedly rare in this paranormal world. Just when he finallygets to live like a normal teenage boy again, it seems that his destiny has other plans for him. He and Silver have an ancient connection and play the ultimate role in stopping a prophesised werewolf war.It was a unique story line, very different to the usual vampire stories out there. However, the romance theme where two characters are drawn to each other andthey don't know why and there's an instant connection and then they fall inlove- seems to be quite popular in this genre. I just don't think it is very believable and I don't like being told that the characters really love each other because I personally like to see this develop during the story. This does work in many stories, but in this novel I wasn't really convinced.Apart from that I did enjoy the plot and I could sympathise with Jack’s pull between the Vampire world and his human connections. The tension between Jack and his younger brother Billy who has now out-aged him is quite entertaining, especially when he wants to stake him at any chance he can get. Overall, it was an enjoyable young adult paranormal novel.
