Today marks the first day of Spring 2011 in Australia and to celebrate the rising temperatures from the chilly winter months I have joined up to the Spring reading challenge. Challenges always provide a good opportunity to knock a few books off my TBR shelf, and it also gets me to read books that aren't just for author/ publisher reviews so that my physical TBR shelf can be less overwhelming.1. Spring clean your bookcases by reading a much loved, but yet unread book..either novel or biography..I've been wanting to read this for ages: The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer & Annie Barrows2. Choose a book that features a new life - a baby (animal or human) on the cover/in the story.This one has a cute pic of a puppy and it has been sitting in my bookcase for awhile; Love is the Best Medicine: What Two Dogs Taught One Vet about Hope, Humility and Everyday Miracles by Nick Trout3. Choose a book for it's cover - a spring image with all it's colour.When I think of Spring i think of flowers, so have chosen Ghost Boy by Martin Pistorius which has a pic with a young boy laying on grass scattered with flowers.4. The Royal Adelaide show is on 2nd - 10th September.. so a book about a show/carnival rides/handicrafts/cookery/livestock..anything to tie into the event.An indie book that is on my TBR review list is No Shoes, No Shirt, No Spells (Mystic Cafe#1) by Rose Pressey. A cafe= cooking and food so I think this will be okay.5. The Brisbane Writers Festival is on 7th - 11th September.. so choose a book written by an Aussie author, released somewhere in the 3 months of Spring.Release date is September 1st for new Aussie author; Henna for the Broken-Hearted by Sharell Cook6. Seeing as Spring colours are predominantly red and yellow, pick a book with either a red or yellow cover.Fury by Elizabeth Miles has a striking redhead on the cover.7. Sydney Eisteddfod is running until 20th September.. and they are searching for the best young Australian talent, so pick a Young Adult book, not necessarily by an Aussie author, for this event.Glow by Amy Kathleen Ryan8. The Spring Racing Carnival culminating with the Melbourne Cup is in November, so a book about horses/horse racing/betting/money won and lost..Rural romance seems like a good fit for this one, so i have chosen Rosalee Station by Mandy Magro.9. How about a book with the title beginning with the first letter of your name....I'll pretend this book doesn't have 'the' at the beginning and say it starts with JThe Jewel of St Petersburg by Kate Furnivall10. For the last one, you have a choice...a book with a garden connection for spring or a non-fiction/biography, again with a spring connection!I've chosen a memoir. Perhaps it is not connected with spring but it does have flower wallpaper on the front cover. I wanted to read it during the Winter challenge but it arrived late so I will sneak it into the Spring challenge!Me of the Never Never by Fiona O'Loughlin
