When she signs up for her last assignment she doesn’t expect to be seducing him into a betrothal to stop him from proposing to Chessie, James Devlin’s younger sister. James Devlin, who she had not seen for ten years, since she left their marital bed twenty-four hours after their elopement. Of course she had her reasons to leave, but as far as James was aware, his former wife had died! There are raw emotions that are disturbed when she re-enters his life on a mission to ruin his sister’s life. Both Susannah and James make each other’s lives very difficult to protect their own vulnerabilities and dormant feelings for each other.Notorious was an enjoyable historical romance novel with plenty of chemistry between Susannah and James. The reason why I didn’t rate this novel higher was mainly because the characters were not very likeable and I spent much of the story trying really hard to like them. It was more than halfway through the book before I developed some empathy for them. Notorious ended with everything tied up nicely.
