Code Crimson is the first instalment of the Arkie Sparkle Treasure Hunter series by Australian author, Petra James. Arkie is eleven years old and enlists the help of her same-aged cousin TJ and her dog Cleopatra to help her save her parents- they have been kidnapped.Arkie must locate seven individual treasures as per the kidnapper’s directions to free her parents. In Code Crimson, Arkie and TJ must uncover the first treasure which requires them to go back in time, to ancient Egypt and uncover where it was hidden. In Code Crimson, there’s everything a kid needs to be engaged in a story: fun characters with special abilities, technological gadgets, interesting facts about science and history and of course two brave, intelligent kids who save the day. It’s only 100 pages with plenty of pictures, fact boxes and large-spaced text.Initially I intended to read this one with my niece, but I haven't had a chance to see her since I returned from my trip and I wanted to get my review up. But I had fun reading it on my own and I hope to still read the series with her when we get the chance to catch up.I’m looking forward to reading the second instalment, Time Trap set in China which is due for release in August.

About the author:
Petra is Australian, but we have a Charlie Carter situation and the author is not available.
This is the first series written by Petra James. Unfortunately, very little is known about her. Like the treasure hunters in her books, she prefers to blend into her surroundings. This book was read as part of the AWW2012 challenge:
