Upcoming readers and writers festivals 2012

Plenty of great events for readers and writers have been scheduled for 2012, some have been and gone but there are many more coming up over the next few months. I’d like to share some of the ones I’ve had my eye on and the ones I’ve signed up for. I’d love to hear if any other Aussie bloggers/ readers/ writers are expecting to attend them too or if you have any other suggestions that I’ve missed.Mudgee Readers’ FestivalNext weekend the Mudgee Readers’ Festival kicks off with a massive second-hand book fair followed by many author chats across two days. What’s fantastic about this festival is that you can pick and choose which author’s you want to book in to see and each session is only $10! In particular, I have on my radar: Margareta Osborn (author of Bella’s Run), Susan Duncan and Susan Johnson. The full program is available here: http://www.mudgeereadersfestival.com.au/2012-festival.htmlRomance Writer’s Australia Conference 2012- Diamonds are ForeverRWA has a fantastic line-up of Australian and overseas romance authors including Helene Young, Fiona Lowe, Nicole Murphy, Bronwyn Parry and many more! This conference also commences this weekend, unfortunately I wasn’t able to make it up to the Gold Coast but I’ve signed up for the Clayton’s Conference (http://www.romanceaustralia.com/claytons.html) which will provide me access to interactive craft and social sessions with guest presenters online. I plan to tune in while I’m in Mudgee and get a double dose of author talks all in one weekend! Clayton’s conference is free registration if you are a member of RWA (I signed up last week).GenreCon 2012GenreCon is an exciting new conference celebrating Australia’s genre fiction. It runs from November 2-4th and is held at Parramatta Rydges. Finally a Sydney based conference not actually positioned in the city (it’s such a pain for me to drive into the city- even though I only live 30 minutes away). Another fantastic line-up of authors including Anna Campbell, Helene Young and Kim Wilkins. Program overview available here: http://www.genrecon.com.au/program/Emerging Writer’s Festival 2012The highly successful Emerging Writer’s Festival from Melbourne is making it’s way north to Sydney this year. It’s presented in conjunction with the NSW Writers’ Centre and we can expect panels, discussions, bootcamp and pitching opportunities. The full program should be announced soon!
