Stacking the Shelves #19
Stacking the Shelves is a meme hosted by Tynga @ Tynga’s Reviews.
In this meme, I take the opportunity to share what books i’ve bought, won or received for review. Click on the book cover to go to Goodreads and find out more information. For review: I absolutely love the television series, Call the Midwife and have been eagerly awaiting a review copy of the book that inspired the series. Ideally, i'd have liked to read the book before watching the series but I got hooked from episode one and couldn't stop there. The show has aroused some lively discussions at work and I enjoy hearing the tales of fellow colleagues who formerly worked as midwives. Can't wait to read this one!
Synopsis: Jennifer Worth was just twenty-two when she volunteered to spend her early years of midwifery training in London's East End in the 1950s. Coming from a sheltered background there were tough lessons to be learned. The conditions in which many women gave birth just half a century ago were horrifying.
I also received the film-tie in novel of Life of Pi by Yann Martel. With the movie coming out soon, i thought it would be a great opportunity to read the book i've heard so much about.
Synopsis: After the sinking of a cargo ship, a solitary lifeboat remains bobbing on the wild blue Pacific. The only survivors from the wreck are a sixteen-year-old boy named Pi, a hyena, a wounded zebra, an orangutan—and a 450-pound royal bengal tiger. The scene is set for one of the most extraordinary and beloved works of fiction in recent years.
