Parker Blue- Try Me (Demon Underground #1)Format- eBook (netgalley)Synopsis: (from Goodreads) This part-demon teen vampire fighter and her faithful terrier hellhound are once again patrolling the dark city streets of San Antonio, Texas. Val's hunky human partner, Detective Dan Sullivan, is giving her the cold shoulder since she beheaded his vampire ex-fiancée. Vamp leader Alejandro is struggling to keep the peace between vamps, demons and humans. The mucho powerful Encyclopedia Magicka has been stolen, someone in the Demon Underground is poisoning vamps, and Val's inner lust demon, Lola, is getting very restless since Val's now partnered with sexy Shade, the shadow demon with the blond good looks of an angel.Review: This is the second book of Parker Blue's Demon Underground series. Someone is poisoning the Vamps in Alejandro’s New Blood Movement, a community for Vamps to feed on voluntarily donated blood as opposed to harming humans. It’s thought that it may be linked to the missing EncyclopediaMagicka, the Demon Underground bible. On leave from the SCU after beheading her partner’s ex-fiance in a vampire showdown, slayer Val enters into the DemonUnderground society where she meets for the first time other demon youths likeher. With the help of her cousin Micah and good looking shadow demon Shade, she begins to control her inner succubus Lola, a lust demon. But to manageLola she must feed her with lust and when Shade puts up his hand to be a volunteer, it’s not just her demon partner but also her feelings that become alittle shady. Is Shade interested in her as Val or because of the enticing lust demon within? Just to add confusion to her feelings, her ex SCU partner andsort of ex-boyfriend Dan Sullivan is ignoring her and she is not sure whetherit is because of Lola or because she killed his ex-fiancé. In the midst of trying to uncover where the missing books are and figure out what is sending the Vampires crazy, threats are made against Val’s family and she must decideonce and for all where her allegiance lies.I am really enjoying the Demon Underground series. This time around we learn a bit more about Lola, Val’s lust demon and how she works- although I am still not completely sure exactly to what extent her power his. Although the tension between Dan and Val is quite intriguing early in the story, I was a bit disappointed to find that Val becomes involved with Shade who played a very small role in the first novel. I was hoping that Val and Dan could continue where they left off in the first book despite the author identifying what exactly their age difference was in this second book. I’m just not completely convinced about Val and Shade yet- he seems a little too good to be true.It was an interesting spin having the demons and vampires work together to keep peace between the species and to protect the humans, with plenty of little sub-plots along the way.
