Book Review: Crescendo by Becca Fitzpatrick
Becca Fitzpatrick- Crescendo (Hush, Hush #2) Format- Paperback Source- Review copy provided by Simon & Schuster Australia Synopsis:Nora Grey's life is still far from perfect. Surviving an attempt on her life wasn't pleasant, but at least she got a guardian angel out of it: a mysterious, magnetic, gorgeous guardian angel. But, despite his role in her life, Patch has been acting anything but angelic. He's more elusive than ever and even worse, he's started spending time with Nora's arch-enemy, Marcie Millar.Nora would have hardly noticed Scott Parnell, an old family friend who has moved back to town, if Patch hadnt been acting so distant. Even with Scott's totally infuriating attitude Nora finds herself drawn to him - despite her lingering feeling that he's hiding something.Haunted by images of her murdered father, and questioning whether her nephilim bloodline has anything to do with his death, Nora puts herself increasingly in dangerous situations as she desperately searches for answers. But maybe some things are better left buried, because the truth could destroy everything - and everyone - she trusts. Review: Picking up where Hush, Hush left off, Crescendo wouldn’t be a YA sequel without driving apart Nora and Patch and making them jump through hoops to make it to the other side. It wasn’t just your usual love triangle but a love square; Nora’s high school nemesis Marcie with her eye on Patch and new bad boy Scott Parnell who has come on the scene and has his own dark past he tries to leave behind. This time Nora is searching for her father’s killer after being led to believe he could even still be alive. She needs to find out who the Black Hand is and hopes it doesn’t turn out to be her lover, Patch.I really loved this book but I also hated it at the same time. It’s one of those books you love to hate. A wedge is driven between Patch and Nora and it frustrated me so much because they had been through so much together and finally made it only for more problems to arise. Of course when immortals and angels are on the brink of a war there are bound to be some obstacles! But when Patch starts hanging out with Marcie it irritated me so much- my feelings mirrored Nora’s exactly. I just had to remind myself that there was a reason for all the bumps in the road and it would all come together eventually even if just for a fleeting moment to set up the third book in the Hush, Hush series. What I love about this saga are the twists and turns and how I never know who to trust and the unpredictability certainly sets a scene of suspense and rapid page turning. The best part about finishing Crescendo- I knew I could pick up Silence and find out exactly what happens next right away!
