Indie Book Review: Bitten by Dan O'Brien

BittenDan O'Brien- BittenGenre: Horror/Urban Fantasy/MysteryFormat: ebook (kindle)Synopsis: A predator stalks a cold northern Minnesotan town. There is talk of wolves walking on two legs and attacking people in the deep woods. Lauren Westlake, resourceful and determined F.B.I Agent, has found a connection between the strange murders in the north and a case file almost a hundred years old. Traveling to the cold north, she begins an investigation that spirals deep into the darkness of mythology and nightmares. Filled with creatures of the night and an ancient romance, the revelation of who hunts beneath the moon is more grisly than anyone could have imagined.Review: Bitten is an intriguing paranormal thriller, by indie author, Dan O’Brien. Lauren Westlake, a federal agent is enlisted into a small town in Minnesota to investigate a series of murders that resemble animal attacks. Lauren is convinced the predator is a supernatural creature, a werewolf. - Even thought the local police department are resistant to this notion.Lauren is a strong protagonist who knows how to hold herself in a work environment dominated by men. When Lauren meets the tall, dark and handsome Dominic, her softer side emerges and her defences begin to fall away. The author offers insights into the perspective of Lauren and Dominique as well as the primitive mindset of the creature and some of the victims, which makes for interesting reading. The plot was well thought out and ignited suspense with the desire for Lauren to survive the small town killing spree. My only criticism was the complex language sometimes used, the author is quite articulate, but I felt ‘big’ words were overused at times when simple language would have been just as effective. Nevertheless, Bitten is a great paranormal read for fans of the thriller and suspense genres.

About the author:

I am an editor, writer, and screenwriter. I currently attend a California university and am pursuing a graduate degree in psychology. I have written over 10 novels, several screenplays, and am working on a graphic novel. A philosopher and martial artist, my days are filled with writing and training. I am an eclectic writer who dabbles in many genres, though most have sweeping elements of scientific inquiry and reason. Most of the novels fall into the categories of science fiction and fantasy, though there is something for everyone. Romance, horror, young adult, and even drama have found their way from my mind to paper. I have four novels in print (Bitten, The Ocean and the Hourglass, Cerulean Dreams, and The Journey) and you can find links to them on the Samples, Links, and Things tab.
