Book Review: Undeniably Yours by Shannon Stacey
Shannon Stacey- Undeniably Yours (Kowalski Family #2) Format- ebook Source- Review copy Publisher- Netgalley/ HarlequinSynopsis: One-night stand + two percent condom failure rate = happily ever after? Bar owner Kevin Kowalski is used to women throwing their phone numbers at him, but lately he’s more interested in finding a woman to settle down with. A woman like Beth Hansen. If only their first meeting hadn’t gone so badly...Beth’s tending bar at a wedding when she comes face-to-face with a tuxedo-clad man she never thought she’d see again. She tries to keep her distance from Kevin but, by last call, she can’t say no to his too-blue eyes or the invitation back to his room. Then she slips out before breakfast without leaving a note and, despite their precautions, pregnant.Kevin quickly warms to the idea of being a dad and to seeing where things go with Beth. After all, he’s not the player she thinks he is. But she’s not ready for a relationship and, given his reputation, it’s going to take a lot to convince her to go on a second date with the father of her child...Review: Beth has always been an independent woman, hard-working and aversive to being dependent on a man. Until she falls pregnant to spunky, sensitive Kevin Kowalski after a one-night stand. Like all of Shannon Stacey’s Kowalski novels, the main characters have fantastic chemistry and I become instantly invested in the success of their relationship. Kevin is almost ‘too perfect-’ he’s not interested in the phone numbers thrown at him in the sports bar that he owns, he takes the news of the unexpected pregnancy so well that he is actually excited about baby and he is also very sensitive to Beth’s needs and VERY patient. Beth certainly makes him WAIT. She is convinced that Kevin only wants to be with her because she is pregnant and refuses to acknowledge the depth of his feelings for her.Beth is stubborn and at times I found this really frustrating, her defences are so firmly up that Kevin has to work really hard for her to trust him and feel safe with him. Beth is scared of being vulnerable, needing Kevin and his support and fears being abandoned. I think it would have been easier to understand if I knew WHY Beth was so fiercely determined to be independent at the cost of her happiness and Kevin’s. The Kowalski family are all on board to help Beth and Kate with their expecting baby and I quite enjoy the antics of the other family members and sub-plots in the story.Shannon Stacey’s novels do not disappoint.Sexual chemistry. Tick. Smart, strong protagonist. Tick. Sensitive, handsome male love interest. Tick. This series is a must read for romance fans who like feisty, witty characters and personality depth.See my review for Exclusively Yours (#1) and Yours to Keep (#3).
