2012 Virtual Advent Tour: My Favourite Christmas/ Holiday Movies

This is the seventh year the Virtual Advent Tour has been running and it will be the first time I participate in it. One movie I can watch over and over again no matter what time of the year is The Holiday. With a stellar cast of Jack Black, Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law (Yummy!) what more could you ask for? I always cry and I'm a real sucker for the English accent... but there's a lot more to this movie than Jude Law!

2. Bad Santa. Okay, I know it's crude and rude and not very political correct, but it makes me laugh every time and that kid is just adorable!3. As a kid I always made sure I watched the TV movie, A Mom for Christmas. Starring Olivia Newton-John who is a department store mannequin that comes to life. A little girl's wish comes true when she wishes for a mum for the Christmas holidays.4. I'm not sure if P.S I Love You is technically a Christmas movie but I'm going to count it anyway. Hilary Swank plays grieving widow, Holly Kennedy in this adaptation of Cecila Ahern's novel, P.S I Love You. Following the death of her husband played by Gerard Butler, she discovers a series of letters he sent her before he died. This movie (and book) is both sad and inspiring and I really love how close the adaptation was to the book. Plus, it stars hunky Irishman Gerard Butler. Jeffrey Dean Morgan also plays a minor role.5. Another book-to-movie, Bridget Jones' Diary is up there as one of my all-time favourite movies. It's awkward and ridiculous but I love how Bridget manages to hold her head up high no matter how bad the circumstances. On Christmas Eve, Bridget attends her mother's house for her annual Turkey Curry Buffet. She overhears Mark Darcy, a barrister wearing an absurd knitted reindeer jumper criticize her and so she vows to change her life. She starts with a journal, recording her progress. It's one of those movies you can put on when you are feeling a little down as it reminds me that my life isn't so bad! Plus there's the happily ever after, Bridget ends up with her very own Mr Darcy.What are your favourite Christmas or holiday movies?
